Trip Overview
Mera peak is one of the beginner-friendly trekking peaks in the Himalayas. Located in the Hinku valley, Everest region, it is also the highest trekking peak in Nepal. Mera peak climbing offers an exhilarating journey through tranquil dense forests, remote villages, and incredible mountain panoramas.
Mera peak climbing is a 20-day journey. The climbing part only takes four days, and the rest of the time, you will enjoy trekking to/from the base camp of Mera peak. If you want to go beyond trekking and begin your mountaineering journey, then Mera peak is the ideal mountain to approach.
Instead of the mainstream Everest base camp trail, you will follow a less visited route from Lukla and trek in the opposite direction. The trekking route is wild and offbeat. You will traverse via landslide areas, terraces, and isolated Kharkas or summer camps of yak herders.
You do not need technical climbing knowledge for Mera peak climbing, however strong physical fitness is a must. The Mera peak climbing itinerary
Mera peak climbing begins with a 35-minute flight from Kathmandu to Luka (2,846 m/9,337 ft). From Lukla, you will trek towards the Hinku valley. The trail goes through the Makalu Barun National Park. You will trek via lush rhododendron forests, crossing hanging bridges, steep tracks, and remote settlements like Paiya (2,800 m/9,186 ft) and Pangkongma (2,846 m/9,338 ft).
From Pangkongma, the trail ascends to Ramailo Danda (2,900 m/9,514 ft) and continues to Chhatra Khola (2,800 m/9,187 ft). During your overnight stay in these villages, you will get to have a close view of the life of the locals. The trail further ascends to Kothe (4,182m / 13,716ft) and Thaknak (5,045 m/16,553 ft). In Thaknak, you will take an acclimatization break.
The next stop is Khare, where also you will spend two nights acclimatizing and getting pre-climbing training from our guide. In the next three days, you will reach the summit of Mera peak (6,476 m/21,247 ft) and return to Khare (5,045 m/16,553 ft). Our guide will fix the climbing route with ropes, making it safe and accessible for you.
If you have any difficulties during climbing, inform our guide. Later, from Khare, descend to Thuli Kharka (3,900m / 12,597ft) via Kothe and Zwatra La pass (4,600 m/15,092 ft) on the way to Lukla (2,846 m/9,337 ft).
