Located in the Khumbu region, the Island Peak (6,189 m/20,305 ft) was first climbed by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary during their 1953 Mount Everest Expedition.
Island peak is known as Imja Tse in Nepali words. Climbing Island peak does not involve technical challenges, however demands strong mental and physical fitness. The Island's peak difficulty level is graded Alpine PD+, which means the mountain is not technically challenging but physically very demanding.

Island peak climbing route
From Chhukung, the trail ascends to Island Peak Base Camp at 5,200 meters (17,060 ft). The climbing route involves rocky ridges and snow mantles. On the summit day, you will leave the base camp around 2:00 AM to 3:00 AM and begin climbing on a rocky ridge to the glacier. Above the ridge, there is a steep snow headwall that leads to the summit.
During your pre-climbing training, you will learn the basic climbing techniques, which will boost your confidence. Our mountain guides will fix the route with the ropes for your safety. You will use climbing gear like harnesses and jumar. The final ascent before the summit ridge involves a 60 - 70 degree face about 150 meters long.
Lodge and camping accommodation
During the Island peak climbing 19 days, you will stay overnight in lodges in the villages and an alpine tent at the base camp. Runned by the locals, the lodges offer basic but comfortable and clean spaces to spend the night. The washroom will be common in most villages. You can also upgrade to luxury lodges if you wish.
